Operations Only

My Father survived 2 tours of Duty. This totals 40 Operations (Ops). The total according to his log is 42. The 2 legs of his trip to Algiers may have counted as one "Op", the same for the return leg. Whatever, he did well to be alive at the end of it! He would have been 25 when the serious stuff began in September 1942. I have inherited quite a bit of his logic and I do believe that his transfer to 192 Special Duty Squadron would have seen him a bit more confident of survival. I would imagine that he became less active in bombing raids. The unit's role was radar patterns and wavelengths. The location of his operations with 192 squadron would suggest anti submarine warfare. I know that he got commendation for discovering Franco's radar installations, the use of which, against Coastal Command anti-submarine patrols by AXIS forces, contravened their so called neutrality. He still participated in bombing raids. He told my mother how he regarded Churchill as a war criminal after witnessing the complete annihilation of Hamburg in the notorious raids in July of 1943.
